Location:
Twin Cities: A110 Mayo

Facilitators:

Details:
A major charge of the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education is to advance the field of interprofessional practice and education through development of intervention research projects to test the effectiveness and return on investment of interprofessional clinical and educational models.  The National Center partners with Nexus Innovations Network sites across the county to collect, synthesize and share key findings from intervention projects that cover a wide array of topics focusing on clinical practice, community engagement, on-site training and classroom interprofessional learning. The data collected from the projects is stored in the National Center Data Repository (NCDR), a first-in-the-nation data repository focused on IPECP outcomes.  The NCDR houses both a core data set common to all incubator network sites and site-specific information. This session will provide an overview of the intervention research being conducted by the National Center in partnership with the Nexus Innovation Network sites. Presenters will describe the findings from a recent proof of concept paper, based on initial analysis of NCDR data.

Session Objectives:
  • Recognize how the National Center partners with Nexus Innovation sites to develop intervention research projects to test models of interprofessional practice and educational interventions
  • Understand the types of research questions and interventions being tested and the role of the NCDR
  • Identify key findings from initial analysis of IPECP outcome data

Location:
Twin Cities: D199 Mayo

Details:
Health science educators are increasingly interested in teaching, assessing, and researching interprofessional skills and competencies using simulations. Yet, interprofessional simulation can require more resources, new approaches to case development, and the use of different educational strategies. This session will use an interactive game and a standardized template to help participants construct successful interprofessional cases for role play or immersive simulation. Participants will work in teams to “assemble” an interprofessional simulation by selecting “jigsaw” cards designed to represent the different elements required and discuss the possibilities and barriers to implementation. The facilitator will draw on examples of successful interprofessional simulations offered in the IERC and AHC Simulation Center. Examples may include: interprofessional competencies; hand-offs; community-based care; mental health; global health and under-resourced environments; chronic disease and complex patients. Opportunities for ongoing IPE case development will also be discussed.

Session Objectives:
  • Identify essential components of effective interprofessional teaching cases
  • Recognize the steps of case "assembly"
  • Begin development of an interprofessional teaching case
