Section 1: Health Insurance Coverage

For Students
Infectious Disease Prevention Educational Module
Section 1: Health Insurance Coverage

Section 1 Learning Objective
This section is designed to help you:

- describe the health insurance coverage required to cover emergency medical situations.

Health Insurance Coverage
All AHC students must carry insurance coverage to cover emergency medical situations. It is recommended you carry one of the following policies:

- University-sponsored student health benefit plan, which offers a good scope of coverage.  Information about the university-sponsored student insurance policy is available at the Boynton Health Service Web site at www.bhs.umn.edu/insurance.
- another personal, spousal, or parental policy that offers equivalent coverage to the student policy.

Your school or program has signed a clinical affiliation agreement with teaching rotation sites (i.e., hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, private offices, etc.) in which you are placed.  In this agreement, your school or program has assured the site that you have health insurance coverage.  When you go to your clinical or community rotations, you should carry health insurance information at all times.
